Last night we had nearly 100 people attend a forum to discuss an urban poultry ordinance in Beaverton. It was a well-received format with a panel of experts from poultry owners to code services officers and lots of terrific questions were asked. Some of the issues that arose at the event include:
- A review of the ordinance after a year to adjust if needed.
- The setbacks from property lines should not be too restrictive.
- Permitting- what is needed and what would it look like.
- Butchering and Disposal- what is allowed and not allowed.
A survey was also taken to help staff continue to shape the ordinance before it goes to the City Council for a decision. If you'd like to let us know what you think or learn more (including watching a video of the forum), please visit www.beavertonoregon.gov/urbanpoultry.
